European Week for Waste Reduction: the ibis Paris Berthier Porte de Clichy sets the example

For the European Week for Waste Reduction, the ibis Paris Berthier Porte de Clichy was chosen to represent the practices of Accor hotels in France by ADEME, the French environmental and energy management agency.

The hotel has implemented interesting and effective practices to reduce waste production at the source. The announced result: approximately 1.9 metric tons of waste avoided by the hotel in one year.

Firstly, in the bathrooms, the hotel has reaped the environmental benefits of the ibis brand’s decision to replace the individual bottles of shower gel with dispensers.

Furthermore, in its restaurants, the hotel has stopped using paper placemats in favor of printing directly on the trays. And to reduce food waste and food packaging, the hotel has stopped using products served in individual portions and opted for bulk products (cereals) or large jars for its buffets (jelly, honey).

Through these concrete measures, led by Philippe Rago, the hotel manager, packaging and waste have been reduced significantly.

To illustrate these practices, the ibis Paris Berthier Porte de Clichy was the subject of a short program produced by ADEME for the European Week for Waste Reduction.

European Week for Waste Reduction: a strong mobilizing moment image

The European Week for Waste Reduction, from November 20 to 28, 2010, is intended to grow awareness for the need to reduce the quantities of waste produced and to provide keys for everyday action. This European awareness approach is intended for administrations and associations as well as for enterprises and the general public. The European Week for Waste Reduction is a strong mobilizing moment. In France and many other European countries, many stakeholders have mobilized for the week and are conducting events and operations to help explain what waste reduction means and how to take steps every day on the job: composting workshops, promotion of eco-design products, distribution of reusable bags, etc.
